Mencap Newhaven Raises Over £600 at Successful Christmas Fair
The Mencap Newhaven, Lewes & District club’s Christmas Fair, held this past Saturday, was a fantastic success, raising over £600 to support the vital services the charity provides to individuals with learning disabilities in the local area. Despite the miserable weather, the community turned out in full force to support the local Mencap charity and its mission to make a difference for people with disabilities in Newhaven, Lewes, and surrounding areas.
A Fun Day for the Community
The Christmas Fair brought together local businesses, crafters, and community groups, making it an exciting event for all ages. Visitors had the chance to explore a variety of stalls offering unique handmade gifts from Crafty Creations, delicious homemade treats from food and cake stands, and an array of fabulous raffle prizes. The highlight of the day was the Grand Prize Draw, with the lucky winner announced later in the afternoon, adding an extra touch of excitement to the event.
Father Christmas and Festive Fun
One of the most popular attractions was the Grotto of Father Christmas. Children and families braved the weather to meet Santa and enjoy a festive, magical experience. There had been rumours circulating that A.C. Knell, a local committee member of the Mencap Newhaven, was the man behind the Father Christmas beard, but we can confirm that the real Santa was on hand to spread cheer, while A.C. Knell happily joined in the fun. The Grotto proved to be a big hit, and many visitors expressed their joy at the festive spirit it brought to the occasion.
